Scout by SCD Labs (“Scout”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

4. Cookies and Local Storage
Scout uses only essential, functional cookies required for the Service to operate (e.g., session state, user preferences stored in localStorage). We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.
Stripe may set its own cookies during the checkout process. These are governed by Stripe’s privacy policy.
5. Scout PRO Behavioural Tracking
If you use Scout PRO (behavioural coaching tier), the Service may track the following data to provide educational coaching insights:

Important privacy protections for Scout PRO tracking:
- No PII collected: Behavioural tracking does not collect personally identifiable information (no names, emails, or financial account details).
- No financial data: We do not track real brokerage accounts, real trades, or actual portfolio values. Tracking is limited to paper trades within Scout.
- localStorage only: All behavioural data is stored exclusively in your browser’s localStorage. It is not transmitted to our servers or any third party.
- Opt-in: Behavioural tracking requires your explicit opt-in before it begins.
- Deletion: You can delete all behavioural tracking data at any time by clearing your browser’s localStorage or using the “Clear Data” option in Scout settings.
- No sharing: Behavioural tracking data is never shared with third parties, advertisers, or other users.
6. Data Retention
- Account data (email): Retained while your account is active and for up to 12 months after deletion request
- Newsletter subscriptions: Retained until you unsubscribe
- Billing data: Managed and retained by Stripe per their data retention policies
- Server logs: Retained by Netlify per their data retention policies
7. Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time
- Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe your privacy has been breached

8. Data Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access. The website is served over HTTPS with security headers including HSTS, CSP, and X-Frame-Options.
However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Data Transfers
Some of our third-party service providers (Stripe, Netlify, Beehiiv) may store data outside Australia. Where this occurs, we rely on the provider’s compliance with applicable data protection laws and their contractual commitments to data security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
